What Is Ship Discharge?

Ship discharge is the process of unloading cargo that has arrived by sea from the vessel, transferring it to road vehicles and transporting it to the delivery point. Bulk loads (coal, grain, scrap, ore) are loaded directly onto tipper trucks; general cargo and project loads are placed on appropriate trailers. The success of a discharge operation depends on having sufficient vehicle capacity on site to keep pace with the vessel's unloading rate. Insufficient vehicles cause the ship to wait too long in port, generating costly demurrage charges. We therefore maintain a continuous vehicle cycle throughout the discharge and work in coordination with crane and grab crews.

Inter-City Discharge and Distribution

A significant proportion of cargo discharged at port is transported by road to factories, warehouses or consumption points in other cities after customs clearance. We deliver discharged loads from İskenderun and Mersin to industrial centres across Turkey by full-load and fleet-based shipments. You therefore deal with a single point of contact from ship discharge through to final delivery.

In these operations, where many vehicles are managed simultaneously, weighbridge and weighing processes, delivery notes and delivery tracking are managed centrally. We ensure an uninterrupted flow from port to door by assigning tipper, flatbed, curtainsider or lowbed vehicles according to cargo type.

İskenderun and Mersin Port Operations

The İskenderun Gulf and Mersin International Port (MIP) are two key anchors of Turkey's southern maritime trade. Our centre's proximity to both ports shortens vehicle turnaround times in discharge operations and enables high daily tonnages to be moved rapidly. We preserve operational fluidity by working in compliance with port site regulations, crane schedules and customs clearance processes.

We are one of the region's experienced teams for discharging steel raw materials, coal, grain, fertiliser and general cargo. For project cargo and out-of-gauge parts we offer an integrated solution using lowbed vehicles and specialist equipment, covering the required permits and escort processes.

Demurrage Management and Operational Planning

Every hour a vessel waits in port generates additional cost; discharge operations are therefore planned with precision to match the vessel's unloading rate. Before discharge begins, the required number of vehicles is calculated, the sequence of vehicle entry and exit on site is pre-arranged, and weighbridge appointments are set up. Round-the-clock discharge is ensured through shift working.

When required, we position cargo in temporary storage areas near the port and then carry out planned inter-city distribution. The entire operation is covered by cargo insurance and monitored via vehicle tracking; weighing and dispatch documents are prepared in full.
