What Is Full Truckload (FTL) Transport?

Full truckload transport, also known as FTL, is based on the principle of allocating a vehicle’s entire capacity to the cargo of a single customer. The vehicle is loaded at the loading point, no other customer’s cargo is added, and it is delivered directly to the destination address without transfer. Compared with the partial model, this structure provides a much faster, more secure and more confidential transport environment.

Once the cargo is placed in the vehicle, it remains in the same vehicle until the destination; there is no terminal transfer, restacking or loading onto another vehicle. The mega (jumbo) trailer, having greater internal height and larger volume than a standard trailer, is ideal for volumetric loads and high-volume packages. The refrigerated vehicle provides a complete cold chain for loads requiring mandatory temperature control such as food, beverages, flowers and pharmaceuticals; it can be set to different temperature ranges. Lowbed equipment is used for heavy or over-height loads such as construction machinery, industrial presses and transformers. The full-vehicle model is the natural choice for large production batches and industrial materials that exceed the limits of the partial system in terms of loading weight or volume. The per-vehicle pricing structure also provides a unit-cost advantage for large-volume loads; the more the vehicle capacity is filled, the more efficiently the transport cost is used.
